BIOGRAPHY

I have had a life long love of sport and fitness.

It started in primary school when at the age of 11 one of my school teachers recognised I had a talent for sprinting. In 1982 I became the Queensland 100m and 200m state champion breaking state records in the process. My sprinting career continued into high school where I won The Associated Schools (TAS), Schoolboy State and Club Championships at 100m, 200m and 400m. At the age of 14 and 15 I competed at two Australian Championships placing in the top 7 nationally in the 400m both times.

After completing high school I decided to take up weight training. Over the next 20 years I was an intermittent gym goer. It wasn't until I moved from Brisbane to Melbourne in 2009 that I decided to get a personal trainer and take lifting weights seriously.

In late 2009 I started training with a personal trainer and owner of Bodymatrix Personal Training Gym who himself was an ex-competitive bodybuilder. After about 12 months I had seen a significant improvement in my physique and decided I'd like to take it to the next level... what that meant, was I'd like to look better, but not necessarily be a competitive bodybuilder. What a friend would refer to as a 't-shirt bodybuilder' (look big and strong in a t-shirt but essentially not have much definition). So I looked around for dedicated bodybuilding trainer and found, at that time, one time Mr Australia, Rohan Reid.

After training two weeks with Rohan, he asked me when was I going to get on stage? I replied "oh I don't know, twelve or eighteen months?" Rohan turned to one of his clients and asked him when was that competition he was thinking of entering. The answer was, "Next March!" If was early to mid-November at that point, so of course my reaction was one of shock and disbelief.

"If you don't set a goal, you'll stumble along, lose interest and never achieve the results you're looking for" was the response Rohan gave me. It had always been a secret desire of mine to have a competition like physique so I decided what the heck, let's do it. Four months later through vigorous training and strict dieting I had transformed my body, under Rohan's guidance. I didn't place in my first competition but two weeks later I was in Sydney competing in the IFBB Australasia Championships and I took first place in the Classic II class.

I backed that up in 2013 with my second Australasia Championship win and a win at the FitX Australian Amateur Grand Prix. In October 2013 I travelled to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia to compete in the IFBB World Junior and Masters Championships where I took out first place in the Masters Aged 40-49 Classic Open class.

This year in 2014 I travelled to Morelia in Mexico to again compete at the IFBB World Junior and Masters Championships and placed 3rd  in the Masters Aged 40-49 Classic Open Class.

I'm a firm believer that you can achieve anything you want to, at any age, provided you are prepared to commit yourself to it. You really can teach an old dog new tricks!
